Career Preparation Guide & Candidate Advice
A day in this job (general picture, not an official schedule)
You would probably begin by collecting your assignment list and preparing your cart. Through the shift you’d clean rooms in turn, restock amenities, report any broken items, and respond to special requests such as extra towels. At the end you’d return the cart, report any problems and hand over to the next team.
Room cleaning checklist (general example of good practice, not the hotel’s official procedure)
- Knock and announce yourself, wait, then enter following the procedure.
- Strip the bed and collect used towels.
- Clean the bathroom from top to bottom, then the floor last.
- Make the bed and fold towels neatly.
- Dust and polish surfaces, check appliances, and replace amenities.
- Vacuum, check the room once more, and note any maintenance problem.
Mini glossary
- Amenities: small guest items such as soap, shampoo and slippers.
- Terry: towels and bathrobes.
- Linen: bed sheets and covers.
- Turndown: evening service where the bed is prepared for sleeping (only if the hotel offers it).
- Floor care: vacuuming, mopping and keeping floor surfaces clean.
Safe working tips (general advice)
- Bend your knees, not your back, when lifting.
- Ask for help with heavy items such as mattresses or full linen bags.
- Wear non-slip shoes and keep the cart from blocking corridors.
- Always report spills, damaged items and injuries right away.
Documents to prepare
- Updated CV, even a short one, listing any cleaning, hospitality or customer-facing work
- Passport copy and a recent photo
- Any hospitality or safety training certificates, if you have them.
