Research Systems Manager / Academic Coach
Job Summary
About the role
AUS is hiring an Academic Coach for its ASC (the student support center). You would work closely with the ASC Director and team, coaching students one-on-one or in groups. The students you support include those on academic probation or at risk of it, those reinstated after dismissal, undeclared students, and students who need academic accommodations because of a documented, approved disability. Alongside coaching, you would run the accommodations process for those students.
What you will do
Academic coaching
- Use coaching and advising techniques, such as motivational interviewing, to guide students.
- Answer questions from students, parents and faculty.
- Keep student records, notes and statistics, and track the progress of your assigned students.
- Keep your knowledge of AUS academic policies, curriculum and advising procedures up to date, and explain them to students.
- Teach learning strategies and check that students follow them.
- Create learning contracts to support student success.
- Prepare reports on student success and use of ASC services.
- Lead workshops on study skills, time management and well-being.
- Represent the ASC at orientations and other university events, and promote its services.
- Contribute to the field of academic advising.
Academic accommodations
- Coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Meet each student who requests accommodations, review their medical documentation and explain ASC policies and procedures.
- Decide on reasonable accommodations based on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and AUS-approved accommodations.
- Create a personal contract for each student and get the required approvals.
- Write accommodation letters to faculty and work with instructors and administrators so the approved accommodations are carried out.
What the employer is looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or a related field
- Experience in academic coaching or advising, and in disability services
- Experience with a diverse, multicultural group of students and colleagues
- Computer skills, including MS Office, databases, scheduling and record-keeping software
- Strong organization, time management, communication and attention to detail
- Teamwork, and the ability to learn AUS requirements, policies and procedures
- Preferred: a master’s degree in education, psychology or a related field, and fluency in Arabic
