About the role
GEMS Education is hiring a kindergarten (KG) classroom teacher. You would be the homeroom teacher for a young class, planning and delivering lessons, tracking each child’s progress, and working with parents. What you will do
In the classroom
- Teach the curriculum with accurate, up-to-date subject knowledge.
- Plan engaging lessons and use materials and the classroom setup to suit different learning styles.
- Adapt your teaching to each child’s needs, including late-joining students, children learning English as a second language, children who need extra support, and gifted and talented children.
- Set and mark work, then record and report on each child’s progress, and use assessment to improve the curriculum for them.
- Use media and technology well in lessons.
- Keep records of year plans, attendance, resources and assessment plans, and show your planning when asked.
- Supervise student behavior safely and encourage self-discipline.
Beyond lessons
- Support children’s well-being and give guidance on their learning.
- Meet and update parents regularly while keeping student information confidential.
- Work with colleagues to prepare teaching materials, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
- Take part in appraisal, performance management and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Join or lead extra-curricular activities and help organize school events such as concerts, school plays, competitions and prize days.
- Attend staff meetings, serve on committees, and communicate with outside bodies such as Ministry of Education officials where needed.
- Follow GEMS policies, procedures and codes of conduct, and promote its core values and a love of learning.
- Be ready to put in extra effort beyond the normal day when the work needs it.
What the employer is looking for
- Qualification (one of these):
- A Bachelor of Education degree in Early Years
- A bachelor’s degree plus a teaching qualification such as a PGCE or a teaching diploma approved by KHDA
- At least 2 years of teaching in reputed schools, including homeroom or classroom experience at KG level
- IELTS Academic score of 7.5
- Strong spoken and written communication, good ICT skills, excellent time management and good interpersonal skills
